32 Years Behind the Wheel: Why This Veteran Driver Wants to Retire Driving a Scania

The Scania “A Good Driver” Competition 2026-2027 continues to champion its purpose of evaluating driver habits and behavior, promoting road safety, and reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
For the month of July, it was Mr. Alfredo Kalanoc Jr. of Genesis Transport Service Inc. who took the top spot as the Good Driver of the Month (July 2026).

What makes a commercial bus truly stand out?

For a veteran who has spent more than three decades driving them, it goes beyond simply getting from point A to point B. It means experiencing a daily route not just as a job, but as a premium driving experience.

With 32 years of driving experience, Mr. Kalanoc shares how Scania has completely redefined his time on the road. His answer is simple and spoken straight from the heart: “Wala na ‘kong makikita na bus na kasing ganda ng Scania.”

When asked what he enjoys most about being behind the wheel, he attributes his confidence and ease to three core advantages:

Unmatched Comfort and Completeness

For a veteran who knows exactly what it takes to endure long hours on the road, the Scania leaves nothing to be desired. “Wala nang nakikita na kakulangan,” he notes, emphasizing the all-around comfort the bus provides.

Effortless Automatic Transmission

After years of traditional driving, the shift to Scania’s automatic system has been a game-changer for his daily fatigue. He highlights the relief of no longer needing to constantly pump a clutch or manually shift gears.

Superior Braking Power with the Retarder

For Mr. Kalanoc, the Scania retarder is a standout safety and performance feature. He praises its incredible stopping power, explaining, “Kahit ‘di muna umapak ng preno, kapag retarder, ang lakas.” This allows for smoother deceleration, extending the life of the service brakes while ensuring a safer, more comfortable ride for his passengers.

For a driver with 32 years of experience, finding a vehicle that ticks every box is a rare milestone. Mr. Kalanoc’s loyalty to the brand is so absolute that he has already made his future plans clear to his management.

“In my heart, I know, ‘di na ako makakakita ng kasing ganda ng Scania,” he shares. He also told his boss “Sir, dito na ako magreretire.”

Congratulations to Mr. Alfredo Kalanoc Jr. for setting the gold standard on the road and showing us what it means to drive with passion, safety, and pride!
